Susan Willson CNM, CCT is a Yale-educated Certified Nurse Midwife and Certified Clinical Thermographer. She has 44 years of experience in the women’s health field. Susan opened the first thermography clinic in the Hudson Valley, in 2003 and has been offering this service in her Stone Ridge, NY clinic since then. She brings knowledge and expertise in complementary as well as conventional medical treatments to her work with clients.
She believes it is important that we take responsibility for our own health and ‘do our own homework’ in regard to tests and treatments that are prescribed for us. We cannot assume that what is considered ‘standard’ treatment in our health care system is always in our best interests as an individual. Often the kinds of treatments and testing options ordered are chosen more because they suit the needs of the health care organization than because they suit the needs of the individual client. |
We are an intervention oriented medical culture…not prevention oriented. Our health care system is a profit-driven model. If we allow people to become ill and then put them on pharmaceutical medications for the rest of their lives (which do not cure the disease, but rather manage the symptoms) and do a multitude of tests and surgeries, then everyone makes more money. If we prevent disease in the first place, people are healthier, but not as much money is spent on health care. If we continue to allow government agencies, medical societies and insurance companies to dictate what we ‘should’ or can and cannot have in the way of testing and treatment options, a whole realm of gentler more preventive ways to support health and to help rebalance the body are closed to us. We must take back the responsibility for our own health and health care choices.
